ABOUT THE ESTABLISHMENT

To begin - the owner is Colombian! There are two locations - one which is located right off of Pub Street and has a limited food menu, and a quieter location close by which is accompanied by a guesthouse. When I first visited Ambar (the quieter location) I was skeptical - Colombian food in Cambodia?? It sounds too good to be true! I looked at the menu and saw that the restaurant offers pasta and Lao food as well. This made me almost decide not to eat there, but while drinking a beer, I ended up meeting the owner. Learning that the owner was Colombian, I decided to give the arepas a try and was pleasantly surprised. The arepas were fresh and the masa used obviously came from imported harina de maiz blanco - more specifically PAN, the company that all South Americans know and love! The dish wasn't half bad, but the portions were small. I also tried the burrito at Ambar's Pub Street location. Honestly, the burrito left something to be desired. It was mostly rice (which in the dimly lit room appeared and tasted to be plain white rice) and the chicken, bean, and cheese portions inside of it were small. And the burrito was $4.50 USD (which might not sound like a lot to an American, but it's rather pricey compared to the $1-$2 USD dishes you can get at local spots. I get that this food requires importing rather expensive ingredients, but the burrito was almost completely rice! After trying the burrito, my rating went down from 3.5 to 2.5 stars. Maybe I'm just dramatic, but I was left disappointed and missing home a whole lot.
