A Stop on the Mekong
Pak Beng is a popular stop on the Mekong River, which backpackers typically overnight on their way to Luang Prabang from Huay Xai. The hostels in Pak Beng are a bit different from city hostels and are more like guesthouse rooms packed with lots of twin beds. It's a cute small town with beautiful views of the Mekong and a couple of bar and restaurants catering to tourists stopping through.Boun Ok Phansa
Although I was only in Pak Beng for one night on my way to Luang Prabang, I was lucky enough to visit at the end of Boun Ok Phansa which celebrates the end of Buddhist Lent. The celebration in Pak Beng included lighting floating lanterns and fireworks! It was an amazing stop to have during the festival period in Laos and gave a more local introduction to Laotian festivities.ACTIVITIES
